FAQ

What is a plunger lift?

A plunger lift is an artificial lift system that uses the well’s own gas energy to remove liquids (oil, water, or condensate) from the wellbore. A free-traveling plunger cycles up and down in the tubing, carrying liquids to the surface and restoring production.

Plunger lift is best suited for gas wells and low-to-medium rate oil wells that suffer from liquid loading. If your well is shutting in frequently or production has declined due to fluid buildup, plunger lift may be the most cost-effective solution.

  • Low operating and maintenance costs
  • Utilizes natural well energy (minimal external power)
  • Reduces chemical and compressor dependence
  • Extends well life and maximizes recovery

Tri-Lift offers a full range of plungers, including bar stock, brush, pad, and continuous-run designs. Each style is engineered to handle different well conditions such as high liquids, paraffin, or sand.

Yes. With low installation and operating costs, plunger lift is often the fastest payback solution. Many wells achieve return on investment in weeks or months.

Results depend on well conditions, but plunger lift typically restores lost production, reduces downtime, and extends economic well life.

Maintenance is minimal. The most common needs are periodic plunger replacement and routine inspection of lubricators and seals.
